EFA and RC Celta staff evaluating players on the field

Fair question

Is this just another money grab?

Here is what you're actually buying.

  • What you pay. $499 for boys, $199 for girls. That's it. There's no second fee at the gate and no “premium tier” to unlock on the day.
  • What happens afterwards. Every player gets a 1 to 10 score, their footage, and a phone call with Maurice or Alan. The call is us telling you what we saw. It is not a sales call. [X] days after the event.
  • What it costs if your child is selected. [Alan's sentence: what a family pays, in numbers.] We say it here because a parent told us she'd heard “the child gets picked, then has to pay thousands to train in Spain”. You should know the answer before you book, not after.
  • What we won't promise. Selection. Since 2023, [N] players have come to these trials. 19 have signed in Spain. Most won't. If someone promises your kid a contract from a two-day trial, they're selling you something else.
  • If you change your mind. Read the events and trials policy.
Melissa, Diego's mum

“Here we go, another academy, another agency promising the world for a small fortune.”

That's what Melissa thought before Diego's first trial. Afterwards:

“We got an accurate evaluation of where Diego was at. We agreed with what they were saying.”

Melissa, Melbourne. Diego went on to spend three months in Spain.

  • Tony

    Regional

“Being rural New South Wales, opportunities are pretty slim. I'm just his taxi.”

    — Tony, father of Keegan, 16, goalkeeper. Keegan spent three months in Spain.

“His feet have improved out of sight.”

  • Paul

The kid who wasn't getting a game

“Every kid is looking for that one moment, that affirmation from a coach to say you're good enough.”

    — Paul, father of Lewis, 14.

“Within six weeks of that phone call he was going to Spain for a month.”

  • Courtenay

    The sceptic

“I still have a healthy level of skepticism. So far, so good.”

    — Courtenay, mother of Lucas, 14.

“He now has sight of what good is. I know where the goalposts are now.”

  • Vesna

    The goalkeeper's mum

“He called and said, 'Mum, I've got to tell you, I've just been signed.' All those years and all that hard work.”

  • A written report from the coaches.Where your child stands against the Spanish standard, position by position, with notes. Not a general score.
  • A one-on-one review with a head agent.Thirty minutes, the report in front of you, your questions answered.
  • More than one set of eyes.Assessed through multiple clubs and agents, not one coach's opinion on the day.
  • 30 per city.It takes our agents time to do this properly. When 30 are taken, that's it for that city.
  • Melissa

“At the end of that trial we got an accurate evaluation of where Diego was at. We agreed with what they were saying.”

  • “The only reason we went ahead initially was the report that measured my son against the European standard.”

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my kid actually be seen?

Yes. 40 players per age group, two sessions, every player scored by name and filmed. The coaches are on the pitch for the whole session. Nobody is there to make up numbers for someone else's trial.

My kid's not a rep superstar. Is this for them?

Your kid is exactly who it's for. Some of the best players we've seen were the ones overlooked in NPL and state leagues. Quiet kids have shown up nervous and walked away with trial offers at Real Oviedo, CD Leganés and RC Celta. They don't need to be a prodigy. They need a moment to prove themselves in front of people who can act on it.

What happens after the trial?

Within [X] days, a phone call with Maurice or Alan. You get the 1 to 10 score, what the coaches saw, and what the next step is for your child, which for most players is specific things to work on, not a ticket to Spain. Footage and photos follow by [date].

If my child is selected, what does it cost us?

[Alan's sentence: what a family pays if a club wants a player, in numbers.] You will have this in writing before you decide anything.

Do we need to be there all three days?

No. Each player has two two-hour sessions on two days, plus the optional Info Night the evening before. Use the session finder above to see which two.

We're regional or interstate. Which days, and where do we stay?

The session finder shows your two days; where the schedule allows, they're consecutive. Melbourne is at The Home of The Matildas, Bundoora; Sydney at Club Marconi Stadium, Bossley Park. [Confirmed times are sent X weeks out so you can book travel.] If the two days don't work for your travel, call Matt before you book.

Will girls play with boys?

No. The girls' sessions are girls only, 40 places across ages 13 to 19.

Is it by birth year or age on the day?

[Confirm: age on the day of the event / 2027 birth year bands.]

What if we don't have an EU passport?

You don't need one. We place non-EU players regularly and guide families through every step. It does simplify visas, but 8 of our last 12 signings held Australian passports.

What if my kid is under 16 and gets selected?

Spanish clubs can't legally sign players under 16. Ages 13 to 15 can still earn scholarships or join development pathways, and this is the age where being seen early builds the base.

Goalkeepers?

Melbourne has a goalkeeper-only development session, Monday 1 Mar, 3:15–4:15pm. In Sydney, goalkeepers join the development session on Thursday 4 Mar, 2–3pm. Goalkeepers also attend their age-group sessions.

What if we can't attend, or my child is injured?
